posted by: care (reply) post date: 04.06.06 (12:07 pm) a couple of questions to add to this study... as a basis for white/black relations, how many white vs. black shows were watched that portray sex? I don't see many black teenage couples on the O.C. do you? Also, I think religious right aspects of the government NOT teaching the proper aspects of sex in school and the results of potential sex at an early age may be a big factor in such activities of kids as well. Abstinence only goes so far, what happens when someone does decide to have sex then? How do they know how to protect themselves? and how do they know that their partners are fully accepting of abstinence before meeting them... etc etc etc... people who practice abstinence should also know about condoms and other such things as well as how some stds are still spread even with condom use. its like someone saying, I'm disease free, but they've never been tested to be proven so. and yes, I'm good with disliking spears and hilton... posted by: SNEEVIL (reply) post date: 04.08.06 (9:35 am) Yes, parts of the study do appear a little sketchy, but the point is pretty solid. I don't watch the O.C. so I don't know how many black people are on it. In fact, the results of this study (generally) are the reason why we don't watch T.V. I will not poison my kid's mind. I understand that I will not shield her from everything, that she will be exposed to the shitty things the media tries to do to kids...but I am doing my part, and hopefully she will emerge with some meaningful values that will make her a good person. posted by: SNEEVIL (reply) post date: 04.09.06 (7:42 am) Okay,I can see what you're trying to say...but I think what you're bringing up is somewhat outside the scope of the study. It isn't about education in schools or government advertising, although I'm sure these factors play a part. This study focuses on media attention and promotiuon of promiscuity by shoving it in kids' faces. What is that poor kid thinking when she watches Britney spears dressed like a whore parading around the stage for all her teeny-bop fans? I mean..come on. I'm sure you can appreciate the significance of this without trying to blame the stinking schools. posted by: care (reply) post date: 04.10.06 (6:51 pm) there was a good oprah show today which specifically dealt with this subject, quite interesting, they had Pink on with the song stupid girls, and showing how media music and entertainment in general marginalize girls into being 'stupid' or playing such things. we need a coffee to talk about this... verily interesting... sorry bout the ranty thingy earlier, well not ranty, but I have a tendency to keep going on about one subject and then hop over to another one that could be somewhat related but not really... hee.. just me gotta love me... ttyl carrie |
