Some people are just prudes. posted by: Mark (reply) post date: 05.26.04 (8:19 am) Obviously, I agree...and yes...you will get flamed for this...or looked down upon for having this view. I am "a pig" for example. posted by: care (reply) post date: 05.26.04 (9:28 am) you know... crawdaddies is a lot worse for the degrading way that women are treated than showgirls. At least a showgirls they don't 'take advantage' of nudity, because its obvious and there are rules regulating it, in addition THESE WOMEN GET PAID. Unlike Crawdaddies that had to have a 'bare the breasts' night to 'celebrate Mardi Gras'!! WHAT kind of establishment is THAT? and the winners... oh yes it was a contest!!! to get women to bare their breasts in public, they got guess what?!?! a friggin Keg of crap beer. Oh yeah, thats not asking for pain and humiliation and a bunch of drooly guys grabbing you. I don't like crawdaddies, and their painful hotwings... HA, no flavour, just pain, it would be easier to drink listorine at least theres more flavour in that! posted by: rilla (reply) post date: 05.26.04 (10:46 am) Reply to: Mark Who called you a pig Mark? I don't think you're a pig at all. I think you're quite hugable. posted by: rilla (reply) post date: 05.26.04 (10:48 am) Reply to: kimq I am a prude. I've admitted it to many. However, I do have social/moral/political reasons for my disdain for Show Girls. It's not just prudishness. A Prude is someone who is afraid to show her own cleavage (which I am)... not someone who has personally struggled with the ideas of nudity for profit. posted by: kimq (reply) post date: 05.26.04 (1:31 pm) Reply to: rilla I said one thing. You seem to have interpreted it two ways. I made no comments about the social/moral/political implications. Personally, I believe we need more barbarism in modern society. It would fix more problems that it created. posted by: SNEEVIL (reply) post date: 05.26.04 (2:05 pm) Reply to: Andrew Aaack! For the record...I was only kiddin' about that rubber glove thing. :o) posted by: care (reply) post date: 05.26.04 (3:55 pm) Reply to: kimq Interesting how civilization is viewed as a demasculinizing culture, where responsibility is considered a good thing, and is also considered a 'feminine' culture?... is the barbarianism aspect something that you would consider good for all men? or just a certain few? what are the restrictions on the barbarianism? posted by: rilla (reply) post date: 05.26.04 (4:41 pm) Reply to: kimq I suggest that you've used the wrong word, that was what i was getting at. Allow me to pull out my good buddy the OED: A. adj. That maintains or affects extreme propriety of speech and behaviour, especially in regard to the relations of the sexes; excessively modest, demure, or prim; prudish: usually applied adversely. Now rare. B. n. A woman who maintains or affects excessive modesty or propriety in conduct or speech; one who is of extreme propriety: usually applied adversely with implication of affectation. Hence prudelike a., of the nature of, or characteristic of, a prude; prudely adv., in the manner of a prude. Does this clarify my objection to the term? posted by: Andrew (reply) post date: 05.26.04 (6:17 pm) Whoa Whoa Whoa!!!! I never meant "right on" for the rubber glove thing. I meant right on for the "Cheers to peelers!" ;) posted by: SNEEVIL (reply) post date: 05.26.04 (7:13 pm) Reply to: Andrew Yeah...(wink wink)... nice cover. I know what YOU'RE getting for Christmas. posted by: kimq (reply) post date: 05.26.04 (8:34 pm) Reply to: rilla "A woman who is of extreme propriety" It would seem we are on the same page. Reply to: care Absolutely. Equal barbarism opportunties for everyone! Yes, we live in an emasculated society. It's sad in many ways, and good in others. In case anyone can't tell, I'm a big fan of the movie Fight Club, but that's somewhat of a different topic from strippers. posted by: care (reply) post date: 05.26.04 (10:43 pm) Reply to: kimq but yet feminazi is a wellworn word amongst barbarianisms... *G* posted by: ZAQ (reply) post date: 05.27.04 (1:56 am) Wow. Hot topic. ;) Frankly, my opinions of "nudity for profit" have a total of zero impact on whether or not people do it, so I don't plan to get too worked up about it. posted by: James (reply) post date: 05.27.04 (4:33 am) Legalize stripping. Too much time and effort is spent on stopping it, when it would be much easier, and much more profitable, to legalize it and then have the province control it. It is not as though door-to-door stripping is a likely occurence. It is not as though property values in Fairhaven have plummeted since Showgirls' return. It is not as though the women are forced to dance. It is all about choices, and accepting the consequences for the ones we make. We'll be right back with Dr. Phil, after these messages. ;) posted by: Mark (reply) post date: 05.27.04 (8:22 am) Reply to: rilla Just about everyone who thinks strippers are bad news has called me a pig at some point. *shrug* It don't confront me none, as long as I get my rent paid on Friday. ;-) posted by: rilla (reply) post date: 05.27.04 (12:00 pm) Reply to: kimq You've missed my point yet again. Being a prude (while I have clearly positioned myself as a prude) has absolutely nothing to do with the reaons why I object to Show Girls. My original post mentioned social concerns (among others) as to why I personally disagree with it. By labelling dissenting voices as "Prudes" you are limiting my point of view to that of propriety. What I am saying, and have been saying, is that my contention with Show Girls has little to do with propriety. But, I am disappointed with the belittling, condescending, way ones opinions can be pushed aside because they are labeled as Prudish. Don't make assumptions about why people believe and think what they do. posted by: mgareau (reply) post date: 05.27.04 (12:40 pm) Reply to: rilla Toasts to Rilla! posted by: JmcV (reply) post date: 05.27.04 (2:47 pm) i actually think showgirls and fight club have a lot in common. both have raised moral objections to the ways and reasons that people use their bodies, and the fact that society supports violence (emotional, physical, or psychological) with money. i will admit that i think the stripper bar is a healthier option for men to get out their sexual frustrations than rape or actual physical abuse - however, such establishments definitely perpetuate the myth that women with nice bodies have nothing better to do with them than to parade them in front of lonely losers. not that i'm saying only lonely losers to go showgirls (and if i was, i'd be insulting myself, so suck it up y'all). frankly, if i was going to develop a moral objection to showgirls, it would have to go hand in hand with a moral objection to organized sports - which also involves people abusing and degrading their bodies for money, and also perpetuates the myth that males with impressively large bodies can't do anything with them except hurl themselves at other males with impressively large bodies for the amusement of males with not quite so impressive bodies. if anyone actually made sense out of anything i said, let me know, cuz i'd sure like to get filled in. ;o) posted by: James (reply) post date: 05.27.04 (4:37 pm) Reply to: JmcV Filled in - ZING! Reply to Casper: prude n. One who is excessively concerned with being or appearing to be proper, modest, or righteous. I've never really thought of you as being or appearing to be proper, or righteous. Modest maybe, but you have your wild side too! Reply to: SNEEVIL It isn't as though you remember any of the ShowGirls experience in any case. I am not going to make assumptions as to your level of inebriation, I will simply say, "Jen these are my friends Deb and Denis." :P Plus, most of the time you spent with your eyes closed - purring like a kitten. Reply to everyone else (except Mark): [Judgment] is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but it doesn't get you anywhere. Write that down. posted by: care (reply) post date: 05.27.04 (5:23 pm) Reply to: JmcV another view point of strip clubs... married men frequent them... and many wives object. I for one do not because I know Cory oogles me as much as he would any other woman... and if the woman doesn't have a pretty face, eh... whats the point...? so, no insecurities here... however I know of some married women who feel that their vows are actually important, and 'a boys night out, or boys will be boys is a flippant responce to something that is held important by the whole marraige thing. oh, and that, I'm not blind or dead yet attitude can be stuffed as well... anyone whos attention is being taken away from priority, is a blatant disregard for their partners... And yes, I view this aspect for women as equally... unfortunately there are too many teenage 20 somethings out there who think its kewl to see boobs jiggle... so wrong... and strip clubs where the dancers are over maked up, *without neato costumes of course* and just bouncing and jiggling without purpose is also wrong... I tip well at strip clubs, and yes, I'm talking about seeing MEN strip here... and I like to be entertained... and mark, I'd love to join you beside the pool deck some day so I can assist in acting as a filter... or a special 'draw straws' day...*G* posted by: SNEEVIL (reply) post date: 05.28.04 (9:47 am) Reply to: James Now why is Mark exempt from your reply...the [Judgement] one? posted by: James (reply) post date: 05.28.04 (12:09 pm) Reply to: SNEEVIL Heh - because Mark knows where the original quote is from and so already follows the creedo. posted by: Mark (reply) post date: 05.29.04 (11:01 am) Reply to: James Hey...Don't take life too seriously...You'll never get out alive. ;-) |
